Two days National Consultation held in Pastoral Centre of Bhopal (MP) organized by PAIRVI in collaboration with BIC. The consultation saw a deliberate discussion on various aspects of energy like reality of power projects, electricity scenario, electricity policy, power sector financing etc. in India, and set the programs toward environmental justice. Consultation also found a good number of people, associated with various socio-environmental organizations, came forward to contribute in ongoing peoples struggle against violation of environmental laws in installing various kinds of power plants.
Introductory session was chaired by Madhuresh (NAPM). He gave a brief note on the background of the consultation. He said that he made it clear that the consultation has been organizing after following a long exercise of works related to energy and environment. And every scheduled session would be followed by the discussion on concerned title and review on related exercises/works carried out earlier in order to decide the way forward.
First session titled “Reality checks from the ground (multiple Impacts, Access/deprivation)” was moderated by Madhuresh in which Sarika and Soumya Dutta participated as panelist. The session saw a detailed discussion focused on ground environmental situation of various energy hubs and peoples’ struggle in those areas to overcome the situations.
