National Consultation on State of Hunger and Hunger Deaths

3-4 August 2009

A National Consultation on the status of hunger and hunger deaths in the poorest of poor states was held at ISI, New Delhi on 3rd and 4th August 2009. Participants from the 6 states namely Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh participated in the consultation.

National Consultation on Review of Durban Declaration and Programme of Action

13th April 2009
Pairvi organized a National Consultation on 13th April 2009 at New Delhi. The objective of the Consultation was to review the progress at the national level for the Durban Review Conference. The National Consultation brought together 30 dalit and tribal rights activists from different states who shared the status of dalit rights and tribal communities in their respective state. 

State Consultation with Political Parties in Chhattisgarh

2nd April 2009
A one day meeting was organized by Pairvi with the major political parties in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 2nd April 2009. The meeting was organized to bring real issues before the political parties and candidates in the fray and to take their commitments towards resolution of those issues. A number of concerns regarding RTI, NREGA, PDS and water insecurity were discussed with the political leaders. All the parties assured improved focus on these issues in future governance. The ruling party, BJP exhorted people to bring these issues to them, so their expedited resolution is possible. It committed to extend all support on these issues and lauded the role of the NGOs in bringing concerns of people in light.
 

Meeting of the Indo-Nepal Group on Cross Border Trafficking

30th March 2009
A meeting of Indo-Nepal group was organized on Women’s Progress Centre, a Nepali NGO working at Mahendra Nagar, Nepal on 30th March 2009. In the meeting it was decided to chart out an action plan to provide visibility to the issue and the group, build capacity of NGOs in using legal instruments and institutions, improve bilateral cooperation to curb trafficking and support safe migration etc. 

National Consultation on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989

20-21 March 2009

Dalit organizations from 13 states of India demanded proper implementation of SC/ST Act, 1989 and appropriate amendments in the Act from political parties, in a National Consultation organized on SC/ST Act in Delhi on 20th and 21st March 2009. More than 50 dalit organizations and victims of atrocities participated in the two day National Consultation, which was attended by members of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), National Commission for Women (NCW) and other prominent social justice experts.
