The two-day workshop on enhancing the access to justice was organized by PAIRVI in Ranchi on 9th-10th August 2017. Around 30 human rights practitioners from Jharkhand and Bihar participated in workshop. Participants were informed about the status of access to justice in Jharkhand and they were trained about the rights against arbitrary action of police, right to fair investigation and rights against arrest, and how to avail the free legal aid services. They were also informed about new and emerging human rights challenges.
Mr. ShriKant Kumar, Advocate Ranchi High Court discussed about the status of access to justice in Jharkhand. Mr. Shams Vikas, Advocate Allahabad High Court informed the participant’s about FIR, bail and bond, and rights against police atrocities. Md .Asghar, HRLN Jharkahnd provided the training on rights against the arbitrary arrest/detention. Mr. Mithilesh Kumar, advocate and Mr. Anup Kumar, HRLN Ranchi briefed the participants about the right of people to fair investigation and rights against arrest. Mr. Ajay Jha, PAIRVI briefed the participants about the environmental justice and role of civil society organization to protect the rights of citizens. Participants were also informed about the right to social security and challenges in social and financial inclusion in Jharkhand. The group of lawyers present during the workshop pledged to start the legal aid clinic at district and block level in Bihar and Jharkhand to enhance the access to justice.
