Advocacy Initiatives for Rights and Values in India (Pairvi) is a
non-profit advocacy support organization committed to provide
technical service such as training, research, networking, advocacy to
strengthen the abilities of civil society constituents in North and
Central India, enabling them to participate in public policy making.
Pairvi was formed in 1998 as a result of resolution of civil society
organizations led by CECOEDECON to strengthen advocacy skills of
grassroot organizations working in North India, especially the Hindi
speaking belt. It is registered U/S 25 of the Indian Companies Act
1956, as a company with non - profit status. An executive Committee
that consists of ten members is the democratic body that gives
guidance to Pairvi's course. Founding Pairvi was inspired by a
strong belief that functioning of democracy in a civil society is
based on minimizing the gap between the aspirations of the people and
public policies, a challenge that can be successfully managed when
civil societies facilitate the dialogue between the state and the
people through a multitude of for a and media. Pairvi's goal is to
promote peoples agenda by facilitating advocacy efforts across the
region. Pairvi believes in and encourages social change through non-
violent means informing both the public and the policy makers. In
addition, it also seeks to promote collaborative efforts and
partnerships between the organizations, social activists and other
concerned individuals committed to advocating on behalf of the
marginalized and excluded.
Pairvi's basic mandate as a social change organization lies in initiating the process of policy advocacy - an important means of achieving social change through inclusion and empowerment. Pairvi focuses on building the capacities of civil society constituents to advocate on their behalf and on the behalf of the marginalized and enable them to carry out larger roles in the process of social change. The specific inputs provided by Pairvi include encouraging awareness, interaction and strategic actions among and through social activists, bureaucrats and policy makers, legislatures, media persons and other civil society organizations. |
