The ultimate aim of Pairvi is to improve the human rights conditions through capacity building of grassroots organizations on advocacy, rights based approach and human rights issues and monitoring of human rights conditions.

The intervention seeks to enhance basic human rights and strengthening an organization's capacity to be partner in development.

The intervention serves slightly different constituency of grassroots organizations and is based on the premise that capacity building of organizations would really translate into improved accessibility, availability and affordability for the under privileged constituency they represent. However, going beyond this structural edifice, the intervention also interacts and involves people and communities in its various efforts.

The thematic areas are:

Climate Change and Sustainable Development

The climate change crisis is no longer just an environmental problem but has serious implications on the communities dependent on natural resources as means of livelihood / sustenance, with the potential to affect all aspects of our lives and its development. India is among the most vulnerable countries due to its high dependence on monsoon for agriculture, food security and livelihood, and also due to its long coastline.

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

Agriculture faces insurmountable challenges in times of climate change. While farm production and productivity is threatened due to rise in temperature, carbon dioxide concentration and rising sea level; acidification of soil and water, reduced precipitation and water availability; agricultural production must be sustained to feed the growing population. The challenge is exceptional for developing tropical countries. Given the large proportion of the population in India dependent on agriculture–directly and indirectly–adverse effects on agriculture would translate in hunger and food insecurity.

Human Rights Advocacy and Monitoring

Pairvi’s basic mandate as a social change organization lies in initiating the process of policy change as well as strengthening human rights infrastructure in the country and in the poorest of poor states. While the focus of rights advocacy and monitoring has been strengthening human rights infrastructure in the country, specific local/state human rights concerns have also brought into discourse through a variety of measures.

Advocacy and Capacity Building

To get to the root cause of the problems, it is essential to strengthen the grass root organization hence enhancing their capacities and proficiencies both in the thematic as well as operational aspects. It enables the organizations to raise and bring the issues in the purview of the government and in an efficacious manner. The programme also seeks to empower civil society leaders, government officials, parliamentarians, and others to sustain the democratic processes by providing comparative information and neutral ground for discussionthroughnational, state level and regional workshops and documentation and information support.
