Lecture at National Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj

Ajay K Jha delivered a lecture on the invitation of the NIRDPR on “Sustainable Development – Issues and Challenges faced at global level with specificreference to India.” The participants included 40 international students and faculty of the NIRDPR.

Meeting was organized in collaboration with Bar Association Sasaram, Forum for Fast Justice, and BandiAdhikarAndolan. More than 40 participants including advocates and human rights activists participated in the consultation. Participants focused on non-compliance of jail manuals and inhuman conditions of prisons.

New Leadership for Protection of Child Rights

23-25 March 2019, Bhagalpur, Bihar

The three-day training Workshop was organized in collaboration with SamagraSeva, Jamui and Samvet, Bhagalpur.  The workshop sought to impart trainings to BalSathi fellows who in turn will act as volunteers in their respective districts to promote and protect the child rights and violence against the children. Training was imparted on   how BalSathi can intervene to promote and protect the child rights in Bihar. It focuses on survival, nutrition, development, participation and  government scheme, and responses of the state government to protect the child rights.

Advocacy meeting on Juvenile Justice;

10th March, Aurangabad, Bihar

The meeting was organized at Vivekanand Mission School, Daudnagar, Aurangabad. More than 25 participants participated in the meeting and discussed the status of juvenile justice and condition of observation homes in Bihar and drafted a plan of future engagement

Peoples Manifesto Consultations

February 2019

A series of consultations organized during the last two months culminated in the consultation organized at Constitution club of Delhi on 26th February. The consultation was co-organized by MAUSAM, PAIRVI, CECOEDECON and Wada Na Todo Campaign.

Youth Workshop

27-28 January, 2019 | Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

More than 40 youth participated in the workshop which dwelt on social harmony, sustainability, education, unemployment and labour rights, disability, constitution of India, governance and youth concerns. Resource persons trained youth on how to raise questions of transparency and accountability, organizing youth and ensuring youth participation. The participants are supposed to act as ambassadors to further involve and train youth on these issues.

Consultation on Adolescents in Jail

14th January, 2019 | Ara, Bihar

The consultation was held as a part of the series of consultations on the rights of the adolescents languishing in regular jails and being tried as adults in contravention of the several provisions to treat adolescents differently from regular criminals.

Mega Legal Aid & Services Camp

13th January, 2019 | Godda, Jharkhand

The camp was organized in collaboration with the State and District Legal Services Authority with a novel approach that along with legal aid, more than 15 departments from the state government also put up stalls to provide services. More than 2000 people visited and availed the services. Free legal aid was provided to 200 people by DLSA Godda, Vananchal Gramin Bank, Dhamani Bazar included 36 paharias financially by opening the new bank accounts, 264 people were issued new labor card by the labour department, Lord Buddha Mission registered the complaints of 115 consumers, food and civil supply department accepted the forms of 40 people demanding the new rations cards, Block Development officer of Sunder Pahari block accepted around 100  application forms related to Indira Awas Yojana and Pension Schemes and 445 people undergone medical check-ups.   Apart from this assistance, District Child Protection Unit and ICDS, Sundar Pahari informed around 500 people about child nutrition, child abuse, child marriage, child trafficking and child labour. The camp was hugely appreciated by the government officers, district legal aid authority, and local people and media as well.

Visit to Children’s Observation Home

23rd November, 2018 | Darbhanga, Bihar

A visit was also organized in children’s observation home in Darbhanga on 23rd December. This is a part of visits to the children’s observation home to see the status of these homes. Visits have been organized earlier in observation home of Ara and Patna.

State Consultation on Salaakhon ke Peechey Bachpan

17th November, 2018 | Patna

Bihar has been recently in the news due to sexual exploitation of Children in observation homes and treatment meted out to children has been a huge concern recently. In this back drop, a state consultation was organized on the status of children/adolescents who have been sent to regular jails instead of being sent to children’s homes. The Consultation presented case studies of large number of children who have been sent to prisons treating them as adults, which is a grave violation of their human rights. More than 70 representatives from the CSOs and government participated in the Consultation. A consultation on the same concern was organized at Muzaffarpur on 25th November.
