Meeting with FAO project partners

Meeting with nodal organizations in all the states were undertaken over the month. Besides, other issues the discussion focused on community seed banks and field testing of pulses during the coming month. All the activities in the project are continued (except physical meetings) despite the lockdown.
Farmers Constituency/APRCEM Meeting

APRCEMs Farmers Constituency Meeting was organized to discuss the priorities and statement for the APFSD7.
Seed Bank Management Workshop
21 March 2020, Jamui, Bihar
A seed bank has been set up in each project state in the FAO/ITPGR project. A workshop with farmers and stakeholders was organised in Bihar on seed bank management. The participants collectively formulated rules and selected committee to manage the seed bank.
National Consultation with Farmers
24 January 2020, Jaipur
A National Consultation with farmers was organized as a part of “Leave No One Behind” Consultations towards the preparation of India’s Voluntary National Report 2020 (VNR 2020), to be presented in the UN’s High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July 2020. The Consultation witnessed participation of more than 200 farmers and all major national farmers’ organizations.
3rd Forum of Environment Ministers and High Officials from Asia Pacific
24-25 January, 2019 | Singapore
The Forum was held at marina Sands Bay Convention Centre and attended by 26 Environment Ministers, President of Sri Lanka, prime Minister of Tuvalu and Dy prime Minister of Singapore besides High Officials from more than 50 countries. Mr. Parihar, Chair of the CPCB represented India and also chaired the High Officials Meeting on 24th.
The Forum was organized to reflect on the Theme of the UNEA 4, “Innovative Solutions for Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Consumption and Production,” which will be organized from 11th to 15th March at UN Environment headquarters at Nairobi. The Forum came out with a chairs summary, which captured the concerns raised by the CSOs on challenges in promoting grassroots innovation, containing chemical pollution, monitoring of global geo engineering governance among others.
Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum

Ajay K Jha attended the MGSF on the invitation of the United Nations Environment. The MGSF was organized by Asia pacific Regional CSOs Mechanism in collaboration with the ESCAP, UN Env and the govt of Singapore. Ajay chaired a panel discussion on the Environmental Challenges and Sustainable innovations from the grassroots which had Neth Dano (Asia Director, ETC group), Sarojeni Rengam (Director, PAN-AP), Prem Singh Tharu (Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact, Thailand), Zakir Hossain (Krisoker Sor, Bangladesh), Oyunchimeg Myagmarjav (Director, Institute for Future, Mongolia) and Francis Kim Ugpi (AITUC, AP). Besides, Ajay K Jha also led the drafting team for the outcome document from the MGSF.
South India Consultation on Climate, food and sustainable development; of false solutions and for meaningful actions
30th and 31st July, Bengaluru
The Consultation was organized in collaboration with the Environment Support Group (ESG) Bengaluru and ETC group. The consultation discussed global, national and sub national priorities and challenges in climate, food and agriculture and sustainability initiatives and understood that climate change and sustainable development are being used as tools to promote corporate interests and false slutions; which is making the situation worse for the people on the frontline of impacts, and how meaningful actions can be organized to resist false solutions and promote sustainability, equity and justice. More than 40 participants including CSOs, youth, CBOs, gender groups and academics participated in the Consultation.
Farm Pond Implementation and Effectiveness Study in four states
The GoI had launched the "Farm Pond" program in 2016. From 2016 several states have been implementing this farm pond program. The initiative is an effective adaptation measure and its success/ failure will have a major impact on farmer’s confidence in adaptation measures. In May 2018 Pairvi in collaboration with its partners undertook a rigorous evaluation of implementation, designs and operation of farm ponds scheme, in 4 states where it is being implemented. The reports based on the study and survey will be brought out soon.
Mushroom Cultivation Training,
25th-31st May, Chandan, Banka district, Bihar.
Around 30 women Participants mostly from minority communities’ undergone practical exposure of mushroom cultivation. This training was organized after deliberations with beedi workers as Mushroom cultivation can be an alternate source of income for the beedi workers.
Farmers Training Workshop

Climate change poses insurmountable challenges to food and agriculture. PAIRVI works to promote food sovereignty which entails sustainable food production through natural and agro ecological approaches, fair price and dignity to the farmers, and fair trade policies. PAIRVI works with farmers to enhance their resilience and income and represents their concerns at sub regional/regional and global fora. It also looks into the interrelations of policies and programmes on energy, agriculture and water. PAIRVI also works to secure land tenure for farmers and women farmers and to resist land grabs and corporate control over agriculture and agricultural inputs.
