26th – 27th February, Daltanganj

The training was facilitated by resource person Dr. RP Singh, Director Extention at Birsa Agricultural University, Dr. DK Rusia, Head Dept of Agriculture and Engineering at Birsa Agricultural University, and Ms. Sunita Kamal from KVK Chiyaki, Palamu. The resource persons provided training in- water conservation through dobhas, crop diversification, value additions of food products, rearing smaller livestocks, etc. The meeting was followed by field visit to all 5 villages namey- Bhogu, Kushi, pidiya, Ganke and Salo where advice was given with respect to cropping, water conservation, and increased intervention with agriculture extension services of the government.

28th & 29th January 2017, Uttarkashi

A day long training workshop was organized for farmers of 5 panchayat in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on 28 and 29 January 2017. The Workshop was followed by field visit. It was supported by BCPH, PAIRVI and CECOEDECON. The long term objective of the intervention is building resilience of 50 farmers in 5 panchayat in times of changing climate perspective and increased income from agricultural and allied activities.

16th & 17th March 2016, Madhya Pradesh

 

Pairvi has been conducting farmers’ trainings in the organic farming which increased their access to local/regional weather information to plan their agricultural practices accordingly and built resilience of farmers in changing climate by sharing innovative farming practices. This time Pairvi has organized a field demonstration for farmers by Mr. Deepak Suchde, Mal Pani Trust, who shared the techniques of organic farmer and preparing organic manure. 20 Farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand participated in this workshop which motivated them to engage in organic farming.

A step towards celebrating traditional good food practices and enabling farmers in India to achieve food sovereignty was made by way of organizing a good-food festival called Food Funchayat. This daylong event was organized by CECOEDECON, Kisan Sewa Samiti and PAIRVI in collaboration with Oxfam India on 24 Dec, 2015 at Shilki Doongri in Chaksu, Jaipur.

28th Feb 2014, Lucknow

The learning workshop was organized by CECOEDECON and PAIRVI in collaboration with Oxfam India at Jaishankar Prasad Hall, Lucknow. More than 35 participants actively engaged with the discussions. The objective of the workshop was to enhance contribution of farmers in implementation of the RKVY and emphasize their right for planning, which is embedded in the RKVY. Dr. H S Sur, former Advisor, Planning Commission, Sabita Parida and Nand Kishore Singh(Oxfam India), Ajay Jha and Nirma Bora (PAIRVI) participated in the workshop along with some prominent organizations working on agriculture in Uttar Pradesh.

4th May 2013, Chhattisgarh

Around 200 farmers from Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Vidarbha, media persons, officials from department of agriculture, scientists from Indira Gandhi Ag University and other various departments of the CG govt attended the Roundtable on Agriculture and Climate Change. While the governor of the state inaugurated the event, the Agriculture Minister, Mr. Chandrashekhar Sahu assured the farmers that government is very serious about improving their lives and a number of efforts are being made in this direction. While a separate agriculture budget has been passed (CG being the first state in the country to do so), a new pro-farmer Agriculture policy legislated, the state is acknowledging the farmers enterprise by giving bonus to farmers. The Agriculture Minister acquainted the farmers of the insurmountable problems that agriculture now faces due to sudden change in the temperature and reduction in rainfall. While a number of efforts are afoot at national and international level, he approached the farmers to make efforts at self and community level to insulate agriculture from these impacts.

14-15 April 2013, Ramtek

Vidarbha region is predominantly a cotton belt infamous for droughts, huge number of suicides of farmers due to debt and failure of Bt cotton. A two day workshop was organized in collaboration with Vidarbha Livelihood Forum to orient farmers, farmers association and members of the VLF on impact of climate change on agriculture (cotton) in the region, agricultural adaptation, and policy response. More than 40 participants representing farmers, and CSOs participated in the workshop. Farmers also decided to conduct local workshops and small studies to better understand impact on the region, cotton and other crops. It was also decided to engage with State Action Plan on climate change of Maharashtra.

11th March, 2013, New Delhi

Concerns over the directions in agricultural policies and budgetary allocation under the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture were expressed by farmers, experts and policy makers in a daylong consultation. It was organized by PAIRVI and a collective of organizations including ASHA, Beyond Copenhagen, Bharat Jan Vigyan Jathha (Delhi), Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society (Rajasthan), Humanity (Jharkhand), Kisan Seva Sangh (Rajasthan), South Asia Dialogue on Ecological Democracy (Delhi) and UDI (Uttarakhand). Suggestions came to make the framework of the mission more agro ecological, rationalize the allocation of NMSA by diverting it from input dealers and technology providers to marginal farmers, adopt decentralized planning, revive traditional water bodies, ensure accessibility of small farmers to common property resources, and adopt a precautionary principle towards GMOs.

15-16 February, 2013, Dehradun

The workshop saw the farmers expressing serious concerns with agriculture in times of changing climate scenario and sharing experiences with the adaptation strategies they have been following. Farmers shared crop based, soil moisture enhancement, technology based and agricultural practices based adaptation. However, two most important learning’s from the workshop was that most of the adaptation is autonomous (no support from agri. universities and extension services) and in many cases adaptation has come to an end. Farmers shared adaptation in rice, apple, fisheries, horticulture etc. the most popular approaches being system of crop intensification, water harvesting, organic and technology assisted minimum tillage. A large no of state officials (agriculture, horticulture and forests), agricultural scientists and civil society organizations participated including the Parliamentary Secretary (Minister) of Environment and Forests.

8-9 November 2012

Two day workshop was organized to look at implementation of RKVY in Bihar, and explore what changes need to be made to bring alive the spirit of RKVY, which lies in decentralized planning. The workshop was organized for the capacity building of NGOs and farmers of the four states (Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand) by Oxfam India, CECOEDECON and PAIRVI. More than 100 participants including with experts, PRI members, state representatives, policy planners and media personnel were present in the workshop.
