The APFSD’s 5th edition was organized by ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific during 28th to 30th March at UN Conference Centre (UNCC) Bangkok. The APFSD is regional preparatory meeting for the HLPF, which will take place during 8th to 20th July at UN headquarters at New York. The HLPF will be held on theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies. The goals under review are SDG6, SDG7, SDG11, SDG12, SDG15 and SDG17. More than 750 delegates discussed regional perspective on the follow up and review of the Agenda 2030. Sh Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NitiAyog and LevanDavitashivili, Minister, Fiji were appointed Co-Chair of the APFSD5. Ajay participated in the APFSD5, and besides curating a number of constituency statements, he spoke on a panel on Goal 12 (Sustainable and consumption and production) organized by UNESCAP along with Minister from Bhutan and Chair of the Switch-Asia, who were the other panelists.

PAIRVI, CECOEDECON and BCPH collective organized the National Consultation as prep meeting for the CSW and took this opportunity also to reflect on the status of the SDGs and Paris Agreement. Ms. UshaPunia, former Minister, Rajasthan, Ms. NeelamGorhe, Chief Whip and MLC, Maharashtra Legislative Council, Mr. Fons van der Valden, Context, Netherlands, Mr. Shyam Chandra, University of Iowa, Ms. AparnaSahay, Chairperson PAIRVI, Mr. Sunil Jacob, UNFPA Rajasthan participated in the Consultation. The Consultation underlined that lot of efforts need to be put in to build pressure on the government to take effective and meaningful policies and programmes. In the context of the CSW, the speakers highlighted that though status of women has improved generally, there are some areas where progress is required (women’s role in the legislatures, taking the benefits of the IT to women, recognizing patriarchy and oppression as a state policy.
