An impressive number of activities were conducted to respond to the situation and make services available to the partners organizations as well as communities. Most activities were though conducted in Bihar, but organizations from Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh also benefitted from these activities. The activities included covid stock take by organizing weekly meetings of the Covid Coordination and Response Committee (with members from Bihar, Jharkhand and MP). The meetings also helped to review, plan and implement a number of activities by partner organizations viz. distribution of emergency kits, food kits, medical assistance, education, help with hospitalization and oxygen etc.
Covid Volunteers training (2nd, 13th and 21st June, and 9th July trained more than 100 volunteers for community and emergency response including home based treatment, hospitalization support, further training of volunteers and making available appropriate information about covid, appropriate behavior and dispelling myths and misinformation around Covid. This committee is working in seven districts in Bihar and Jharkhand- Rohtas, Samastipur, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Jamui, Banka and Deoghar and two districts Chhindwada and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. However, the pick of the effort has been online medical support through weekly webinars. More than 10 webinars were organized (with qualified doctors based in India and abroad) covering all aspects of covid 19 pandemic as well as child and maternal health, epilepsy and child epilepsy, maternal care during covid pandemic, worm infection in children, lessons from the pandemic and challenges ahead, and possibility of a third wave etc. The doctors also treated a significant number of patients by responding to missed calls! Until now, this committee has reached more than 3000 people through our campaigns.
