7th session of the United National Environment Assembly

Ajay K Jha, Regional facilitator UNEP MGS in Asia Pacific and representing CECOEDECON participated in the Open Ended Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR) from 1st to 5th December, 2025, Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) on the 6th & 7th December and UNEA 7 from 8th to 12th December 2025. Organized under the theme of “sustainable solutions for a resilient planet,” UNEA 7 adopted the Ministerial Declaration and passed 11 Resolutions and three decisions. A brief report of the participation of Ajay K Jha is as below;

  • OECPR: Ajay K Jha contributed to the collective regional statement delivered by Dr Prof Alzuhairi (RF, West Asia) in the Opening Plenary of the OECPR and Farmers Major Group Statement delivered by AG Kawamura (Co facilitator, Farmers Major Group of the UNEP).

 

  • GMGSF: Ajay K Jha was a member of the GMGSF taskforce and contributed in shaping the GMGSF agenda. All the Major Groups and regions were given equal space and representation in the GMGSF programme, which was developed over various online meetings and in person meeting at Nairobi. In addition, during the GMGSF, Ajay K Jha also spoke on outcomes of the UNFCCC COP 30 on the session on “connecting UNEA with other global processes” on the 6th.

 

  • UNEA 7: Ajay K Jha coordinated and contributed to collective regional statement, delivered by Chinkie Golle (RF, Asia Pacific) during the UNEA 7 opening Plenary on the 8th. He also coordinated the farmers Major Groups Statement delivered in the UNEA Plenary as well as collective MGS statement delivered during the UNEA closing Plenary on the 12th.
  • UNEA 7 Side Events: Ajay K Jha coordinated and spoke in three UNEA 7 side events,
    1. Gender Responsive and socially Inclusive implementation of the MEAs on the 5th co organized by CECOEDECON, ECO Waste Coalition, APRCEM, AIPP and Roots for Equity supported by EMPOWER (UNEP & UN Women)
    2. Scaling up pathways for inclusive, resilient, healthy and sustainable food systems on 7th Dec co organized by Village farmers Initiative (Nigeria) & Roots for Equity (Pakistan)
    3. Transformative Knowledge for Planetary Sustainability; Bridging Science, Indigenous wisdom and Policy on the 9th December co organized by a number of Major Groups and Regions and coordinated by Prof. Medani Bhandari and Kelly Sheridon (RF, North America).

 

  • Asia Pacific MGS Meeting; Ajay K Jha also coordinated and organized a meeting of the Asia Pacific MGs in which around 30 participants from Asia pacific participated. Dr. Subrat Sinha, Environment Officer, UNEP Regional Office in Asia Pacific also participated.
  • Farmers Major Group coordination Meetings: Ajay K jha also participated in the mid-day Farmers Major Groups coordination meetings during the OECPR and the UNEA.
  • Meeting with Home Alliance members: a meeting of FMG with members of the Home Alliance was organized on the 5th
  • Morning Briefings: MGS Morning briefings were organized every day at 08.00 am. Ajay K Jha participated in all morning briefings except on the 11th
  • Indigenous Peoples Special Event: Ajay K Jha participated in the IP Special Event organized by the IPMG on the 8th.
  • Ajay K Jha also followed a number of resolutions and contributed to the collective inputs during the OECPR and UNEA week.
