The visit was meant to discuss on activities we have done in last 5 years, what was learning experience, opportunities, challenges, and what needs to be done in next one year. We have visited district jail, observation home, juvenile justice board and district court at Sasaram. During visit to District Jail, Sasaram, have brief discussion with Jail Superintendent Rakesh Kumar on prison condition and general wellbeing of prisoners. Around 1000 prisoners were lodged in the jail and 40 percent of them are accused of liquor related case. Further visited adolescent ward with the superintendent where first time offender of 18-21 years of age group were lodged. During the visit of the adolescent ward, we found minimum four suspicious cases where inmates look like juveniles. When asked about their date of birth. They said that they are below 18 years. Jail superintendent assured to inform DLSA about these juveniles. We have also visited women ward and found out of 44 women prisoners 19 are accused of liquor related case. We found three children below 6 years along with their mothers in the jail. At least 3 women complained that we have got bail from court but due to lack of family support we are still behind the bar. They said that they were unable to manage bailer and witness required for release.
