Meeting with Beedi Workers, Samastipur

On 24th November 2024, the community meeting was held in Akhtiyarpur village, located in the Sarai Ranjan block of Samastipur district, with around 50 participants from the villages of Khalispur, Narghoghi, Gangsara, and Ahmadpur. Veena Kumari, the Block Head of Sarai Ranjan, was present at the meeting. The gathering aimed to strengthen connections with local communities, identify leaders and youth, and understand their aspirations and expectations. The meeting facilitated deeper community engagement and helped pinpoint opportunities for income generation and collective reflection. Most of the women attending belonged to minority communities. They voiced concerns about the lack of alternative livelihoods and suggested home-based work, such as packaging or wrapping small goods. Additionally, participants raised issues regarding the denial of access to social security schemes, such as the PM Awas Yojna, missing names on ration cards, and the lack of proper toilet facilities. In response to these concerns, it was decided to restart social security camps in the villages to address these gaps and support the community more effectively. This meeting served as a platform for dialogue, fostering collaboration and collective action toward sustainable solutions.
