Community meetings in Rohtas district of Bihar

In Rohtas district of Bihar, PAIRVI facilitated four community meetings, engaging a total of approximately 200 participants across Dehri, Bhaikima, Sasaram Observation Home, and Darihat. These meetings were held on 11th, 18th, and 26th January, and 3rd February, creating important platforms for dialogue and community engagement. The sessions focused on raising awareness about the rights of Children in Conflict with Law (CICLs) and undertrial prisoners, while also strengthening community understanding of legal processes and support systems. The meetings served as vital spaces for disseminating key information on the availability of free legal aid services, the importance of Community Protection Committees (CPCs), and the proactive role of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) in ensuring access to justice. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and concerns related to legal barriers, delays in justice delivery, and lack of awareness about entitlements. These interactions also enabled the identification of potential PLVs from within the communities, who can act as local resource persons and bridge the gap between vulnerable populations and the justice system. Importantly, these meetings contributed to building trust and rapport with community members, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and empowerment. They also provided valuable grassroots insights into systemic challenges such as limited legal awareness, social stigma, and institutional gaps. Overall, the initiative has laid a strong foundation for sustained legal literacy, community mobilization, and rights-based action in the district, reinforcing PAIRVI’s commitment to improving access to justice for marginalized groups.
