On 7th November; An online Pre COP 29 events was organized by PAIRVI in collaboration with YUVA to discuss important issues at the table of COP 29 and what to expect from it. Ajay K Jha provided the keynote address. Other speakers included Roshni (YUVA), Almuth Schauber (MISEREOR), Sanjay Vashishth (CANSA), Ivan (Ibon International), Andrea Ramirez (EHS University), Andre Laletin ( Friends of Siberia Forests), Souparna Lahiri (Global Forest Coalition), Arvind Unni (Urban Workers and Climate Change Platform) etc.. More than 80 participants from all regions attended this event.

Pre COP 29 Consultations

28th October, Bhopal. PAIRVI has been organizing pre cop consultation before each COP to discuss major issues, prospects, possibilities and challenges specific to that COP. This year a novel practice was initiated by organizing this Pre COP meeting in State rather than Delhi. The preCOP Consultation was organized in collaboration with the AIGGPA (Atal Institute for Good Governance and Policy Analysis, Bhopal), MP Council on Science and Technology and Narmada Samagra. The Consultation was graced with the presence of the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and several other dignitaries. More than 300 representatives from the government, CSOs, academic and practitioners participated in this consultation. Inception Meeting of Access to Justice for Children Project, Dehri, Bihar

The project was launched in this public consultation at Dehri on Sone in Bihar on 20th October. The project will support access to justice for children, juveniles and under trial prisoners in four blocks of Sasaram and Aurangabad districts of Bihar. Shri Dhirendra Kumar Mishra, District Judge 2, Dr. Nirmal Singh (renowned Paeditrician),  Shri Dadan Pandey (Member, BWC), Rajneesh Kumar Singh (district probation Officer), Shri Tej Bali Singh (Member, JJB) and Mr. Santosh Upadhyay (child rights and prison rights advocate) along with many relevant stakeholders from the government, District Legal Services Authority, CSOs and local government representatives participated in the meeting which was facilitated by Dinbandhu Vats and Rajneesh (PAIRVI). Empowering Voices – Bridging the Gap; State Level Advocacy Workshop

The workshop was co-organised by PAIRVI & EKA, Madhya Pradesh at Bhopal from 4th to 6th October 2024. The workshop attempted to create space for groups and individuals involved in advocacy initiatives to come together, share experiences and learn from each other. Facilitators were from the organizing team and the participant team as well. The workshop was interactive and rely on the sharing from the participants. We collectively learned how to plan, practice and proceed for advocacy. We also learned the better ways of networking, mobilization, communication, documentation, team building, and leadership. Workshop on CSO; Concerns, Challenges and Possibilities

27 August 2024, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Workshop was organized to discuss the concerns, challenges and possibilities of civil society organisation in wake of new crisis during contemporary period. Around 30 human rights defenders from Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan participated in the workshop.  Community leaders form Paharia PVTGs of Jharkhand and beedi workers of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh shared their experiences, achievements, concerns and future strategy to work with local communities. This workshop also developed their better understanding of forest and tribal rights, new legal regime in India.

13th August 2024, ISI, Delhi. PAIRVI organized a youth dialogue with Shehri Mahila Kamgar Union, a platform of unorganized workers in construction, sanitation and home/care. More than 25 youth from this platform engaged in an intensive discussion on climate change, reasons and drivers, impacts, actions to prevent climate change, how it affects their communities and how they can contribute more towards climate policy and action. The consultation also discussed developing community action plan and the youth expressed keen interest to develop an action plan for their community.

A brief meeting with 20 women beedi workers  of Paraswada, Jabalpur were organized at Budh Vihar. These women shared their concern and challenges. They were part of our social security campaing during previous project. Now they are looking for new opportunities. Possibility of forming self help group of women beedi workers at Jabalpur were discussed actively during the informal meeting.

Consultation on New Indian criminal justice laws: Innovation in Justice, Implications and Challenges

30 July 2024, Lucknow. The Consultation  was jointly organized by PAIRVI, New Delhi and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. As of July 1, 2024, three new criminal justice laws have come into force. Instead of the old Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and the Evidence Act, we have the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam respectively. However, critics of the new legal regime and some legal experts have pointed out that the new laws have made largely cosmetic changes to the old provisions while adding some new penal provisions that give increased powers to the police, dilute civil liberties, promote misogyny, and undermine federalism. These meetings were organized at Kosi Goda village under littipara block in Pankur and Chhota Sevaikudi village under Sundar Pahari Block in Godda district in Jharkahnd. These meetings were organized to build the local networks and strengthened the engagement with Paparias. It was alos meant to serve the purpose to  identify local community leader and youths,  discuss their aspirations and expectations and collective reflection  of the community. Prople express their concners over acess to social security schems and governmetn services in their localities. They urged to immediate intervention in generating the emplyoment for youths.  Women of these localities were quite active and assertive for their rigts. They asked to lauch the campaign of  for social security in the area.

The UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) was held during 8th to 17th July at UNHQ in New York City. The HLPF under the theme ‘Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: The effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions’ reviewed progress on SDG 1, 2, 13, 16 and 17 and witnessed Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) from 36 countries. While PAIRVI did not participate in person in the HLPF 2024, it supported MGOs Coordination Mechanism, and its Advocacy Working Group, and APRCEM in its side events and global south strategy meeting, daily HLPF debrief throughout the Month of June and first two weeks of July.
