International Festival of Peoples Rights and Struggles was organized in collaboration of many organizations led by Pesticide Action Network, Asia Pacific at Cititel Hotel, Penang. Other organizers included Asia Peasants Coalition (APC), Peoples Coalition for Food Sovereignty, Global Peoples Caravan, International League for Peoples Struggles (ILPS), International Migrants Alliance, and International Women’s Alliance etc. More than 530 CSOs and Peoples movements from all continents and 44 countries participated in this festival. Ajay K Jha was invited as a key note speaker in this consultation organized by India Alliance for Child Rights (IACR), Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and Bahai International House of Public Affairs. More than 50 children and Youth rights activists participated in the Consultation, which focused on bringing children and youth’s concerns in the climate conversations, policies and programmes. Dialogue with Women Beedi Workers at Chandan, Bihar

It was a follow up meeting with the beedi workers who have been trained as beautician last year. Purpose of this dialogue was to engage with trained women workers once again and to take stock of real situation of these women. Participants shared their experience, learning, challenges and opportunities. It has created hope for women beedi workers. After this training, 3 women (Ladhli Khatun, Mehak Praveen and Khushbu Devi) have started freelance work as a parlour didi in their neighbourhood area and one woman (Priya Kesari) is working in her own parlour. Priya said that this training has added value to her work. Now she has some permanent customers and enjoy the work. The visit was meant to discuss on activities we have done in last 5 years, what was learning experience, opportunities, challenges, and what needs to be done in next one year. We have visited district jail, observation home, juvenile justice board and district court at Sasaram. During visit to  District Jail, Sasaram,  have brief discussion with Jail Superintendent Rakesh Kumar on prison condition and general wellbeing of prisoners. Around 1000 prisoners were lodged in the jail and 40 percent of them are accused of liquor related case.  Further visited adolescent ward with the superintendent where first time offender of 18-21 years of age group were lodged. PAIRVI has been working with women beedi workers of Chandan Block of Banka district district in Bihar for the last six years.  It works to improve their living conditions and social wellbeing. The main agenda of our engagement with beedi workers is to improve the basic rights and social security schemes, develop the alternative livelihood options and entrepreneurship skills, build the leadership quality among the women beedi workers and to establish the cooperative/associations of women beedi workers. These women mostly belong to minority communities and other deprived groups. According to a survey conducted by PAIRVI, rolling Beedi is an industry that employs mostly women. This time PAIRVI has focused to build capacity and advocacy skill of youths and organized the National Youth Workshop on Nurturing Youth, Creating Possibilities. The workshop was organized at Hotel Rajputana Ranthambhore, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan on 26-28 December 2023. The workshop witnessed participation of 24 participants from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
