Community Meeting with Women Beedi Workers, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

A community meeting for approximately 55 women bidi workers from Katangi and Badhaiya Mohalla was organized in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on August 2, 2025, in collaboration with PAIRVI New Delhi and the Nagarik Adhikar Manch. The primary focus was on addressing the bidi workers' challenges, which include very low wages, lack of social security benefits, and the decline of the bidi-making industry, which has been their generational livelihood. The meeting aimed to explore strategies for the economic empowerment of the workers and their families, including accessing social security schemes and providing alternative livelihood through skill training. Rajneesh from PAIRVI discussed the skill training program, announcing that 30 workers (10 each from Badhaiya Mohalla, Panagar, and Katangi) would be selected for training by December. Patna, 1 August, 2025. PAIRVI in collaboration other state partners organized the State Consultation on Peoples Vision of Development in Bihar at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna. The participants found it extremely relevant due to upcoming State assembly elections in Bihar in November. The consultation was attended by approx. 60 participants from CSOs, Press and media and representative of all major political parties including the ruling BJP and JDU, RJD, INC and left parties. The session witnessed animated conversation and high number of questions due to presence of representatives from the ruling coalition. However, the session was moderated effectively to prevent allegations, claims and counter claims to keep it focused on people’s aspirations from the next government. Paralegal Volunteer Workshops on Child Protection, Dehri, Bihar

27-28 April and 21-22 June 2025. The two days workshops were designed for intermediate to   advance level.  Begner level was organised in February last year. It focused on the legal frameworks pertaining to child protection, including the Juvenile Justice Act and the POCSO Act. The training also covered practical skills related to identifying CICL and Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP), the role of PLVs in the legal aid system, and strengthening the functioning of local Child Protection Committees. The curriculum covered relevant legal frameworks such as the Juvenile Justice Act, the POCSO Act, the DK Basu Guidelines, and practical tools like fact sheets, FIR documentation, legal rescue protocols, and community mediation. The  stakeholder dialogue titled “Breaking Barriers: Collective Action for Juvenile Justice and Legal Aid” was organized at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna on 3rd June 2025. This meeting witnessed the participation of Ms. Shilpee Soniraj, Member Secretary, Bihar State Legal Services Authority, Patna, Ms. Anupam, Registrar of the Authority, Ms Nisha Jha, Former Chairperson Bihar State Child Protection Committee, and other relevant stakeholders. Ms. Soniraj offered full institutional support to PAIRVI and committed to ensuring follow-ups on field-level concerns. She emphasised the importance of practical engagement and inter-agency coordination to improve outcomes for vulnerable children. On March 27, 2025, a stakeholder dialogue titled “Breaking Barriers: Collective Action for Juvenile Justice and Legal Aid” was organized at Hotel BNS International, Sasaram. The meeting brought together around 40 key stakeholders including the jail superintendent, probation officers, representatives from the Child Welfare Society, lawyers, journalists, community members, and social workers. The dialogue aimed to address the systemic barriers hindering effective legal aid for juveniles and undertrial prisoners. Discussions emphasized the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration, improved accountability mechanisms, and collective strategies to bridge the legal assistance gap. The exchange of insights yielded several valuable recommendations that will inform ongoing and future interventions in the juvenile justice system.

From March 20 to 22, 2025, PAIRVI organized a three-day national residential workshop on "Climate Justice and Sustainable Development: Encouraging Community Roles and Actions" at the scenic Jawai Bandh in Pali, Rajasthan. The workshop brought together 28 participants from nine states across India, including community leaders, grassroots activists, young climate advocates, and representatives of civil society organizations. The objective of the workshop was to deepen the understanding of climate science, unpack the socio-economic and political drivers of the climate crisis, and empower participants with the tools and knowledge to engage in community-led climate action. PAIRVI conducted nine community meetings across the villages of Maudihan, Chilbila,  Dhelhan  Mathurapur  Khudrawan, Arjun Bigha, Ganuwan, Rophtha, and Gohin in Rohtas district on 27th Ocober, 3rd November, 24th November, 15th December, 9th February, 14th February, 16th February, 7th March and 9th March respectively . These meetings collectively witnessed the active engagement of 478 community members. The primary focus of these gatherings was to raise awareness about PAIRVI’s ongoing initiatives to ensure access to justice and legal entitlements for Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and under trial prisoners. The meetings aimed to inform communities about the objectives of the project, foster relationships with local stakeholders, identify CICL and under trial cases, and enlist community-based paralegal volunteers.
