The two-day workshop on child rights and media was organized by PAIRVI at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna on 1-2 May 2022. An informal meeting was organized with the Pujhar community of Dhanphari Village under Mathurapur Block of Deoghar district in Jharkhand on 23rd April 2022. Around 30 people from this community participated in the meeting. They originally belong to the Khaira Paharia primitive tribe which is mentioned in the land record. They have descended from Rajmahal hills and made habitation at the foothill area. Their living conditions and social behavior are alike to PVTGs. They have raised two important issues, first lack of safe drinking water.  They claimed that among the 40-45 households only two hand pumps are there. The conference was organized to share the draft report of study on Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission and District Human Rights Court, Lucknow conducted by PAIRVI. Dr. Manish Singh, Chairperson of Legal Aid Committee delivered the inaugural speech. Consultation on Exploring the New Opportunity

The consultation on Talash Naye Avsar Ki was organized jointly by PAIRVI and JJBVK, at Savitri Bai Phule Auditorium, Samastipur, Bihar on the occasion of International Women’s Day.   Large number of women workers and adolescent girls participated in the consultation. The consultation primarily focused on gender equality, rights to livelihood, equal opportunity, and right to education. Women beedi workers have also participated in the consultation and shared their concerns. Panelists also discussed about the crime against adolescent girls particularly sexual assaults, trafficking, child marriage and child labour. They have expressed their concerns over raising the number of crimes against the women in the district.    They have urged for a large social coalition to cope with women's issues. Women participants and panelists have been felicitated by the organization to commemorate the women’s Day.

Youth Dialogue was organized by PAIRVI in Collaboration with Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Faculty of Social Sciences, BHU, Varanasi on 16th December 2021. The push towards online classes and use of digital technology in education predates the pandemic, but it has garnered greater public attention due to pandemic-induced curbs on physical meetings and spaces. The new National Education Policy announced by the government in July 2020 has, inter alia, evangelized “online” tools as a game-changer in education and has encouraged their adoption  So the question arises is online education sustainable, is India ready to switch the online education mode and how to address the question of equity, inclusion and quality in online education.  The youth dialogue discussed these issues.  Around 100 Academicians, researchers, and members…

Consultations with women beedi workers in Samastipur, Jamui and Banka, Bihar on 3rd, 6th and 7th December 2021

PAIRVI has been working with women beedi workers to improve their human rights conditions and life situation. Baseline survey of 329 women headed households of beedi workers in Jamui, Banka and Samastipur districts in Bihar and Jabalpur district has been conducted to empirically observe and document the life situations, livelihood conditions, access to basic needs and social security benefits of beedi workers.  After this survey the consultations with women beedi workers were organized to devise to further interventions with them. Food Sovereignty and Sustainable Agriculture
A number of activities were organized by PAIRVI under the FAO/ITPGR supported project on “Improving Pulse Biodiversity in Rice Fallow Areas of Tribal Belts of Eastern and Central India.” Partners in all 5 states conducted or are in the process of pulses/oilseeds cultivation during the rice fallow season during October to December. Besides, as a part of the Beej Mahotsav, Seed fairs were organized in Madhya Pradesh on 12th November and West Bengal on 28th November. Rest of the states (Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh) will organize seed fair during December. In addition, 3rd Results Report was also submitted to FAO/ITPGR Secretariat.

Baseline survey of more than 300 women headed households of beedi workers in Jamui, Banka and Samastipur districts in Bihar and Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh has been conducted to empirically observe and document the life situations, livelihood conditions, access to basic needs and social security benefits of beedi workers. This survey is devised to further interventions with this marginalized community and engages with them to ensure their livelihoods and improve the life situation and to develop a cooperative of women beedi workers to make their work commercially sustainable.
